Four Moroccan Referees to Officiate at 2019 AFCON

The Confederation of African Football announced on Thursday the list of referees selected to officiate at the African Cup of Nations matches, scheduled from 21 June to 19 July.

The final list comprises 26 central referees, including two Moroccans, Rédouane Jiyed and Noureddine El Jaafari, while two Moroccan assistant referees are on the list of the 30 selected by CAF, namely Azgaou Lahcen and Mustapha Akarkad.

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, popularly known as AFCON, is the biennial championship in which Africa's top men’s teams compete for the gold-plated African Nation Cup trophy.

This tournament will be the first in which the format has been expanded from 16 to 24 teams.
