Ahly duo Hossam Ghaly and Abdallah El-Said have been dropped from the squad travelling to Tunisia to face Etoile du Sahel for disciplinary reasons.

The Cairo giants will be hosted by the Tunisian team on 8 August in the fourth round of the CAF Confederation Cup's group stage.

"The technical staff have decided to drop Ghaly and El-Said from the Tunisia trip, and gave them two days' rest from training," Ahly said in a statement on their official website, without disclosing further details.

"Football director Wael Gomaa also decided to fine the duo according to the club's disciplinary rules," the statement added.

The recent bust-up between Gomaa and the duo is reportedly the main reason behind the decision to drop the pair.

Titleholders Ahly, whose draw with Smouha last week handed Cairo rivals Zamalek their first league title in 11 years, were held to a 1-1 draw with ENPPI in the final match of the competition.

Gomaa was angry that Ghaly was shouting at his teammates during the match, leading to a heated exchange between both.

Midfielder El Said also angered the football director after blaming his coach Fathi Mabrouk for being sidelined against ENPPI.

Veteran midfielder Ghaly was stripped of Ahly's captaincy last May for losing his temper and kicking the captain's armband to the ground after being sent off in a league game.

According to reports in the Egyptian media on Monday, both Ghaly and El-Said have reacted angrily, asking the club management to leave this summer.

Ahly ended the domestic league in second place, guaranteeing a Champions League spot next season.

At the Confederation Cup, Ahly currently leadd Group A with 7 points, one ahead of second-placed Etoile du Sahel.
