Iran female shooters finish 1st in Asian Shooting Championship

Iranian female sports shooters have impressed the audience at the 13th edition of Asian Shooting Championships in the Persian Gulf kingdom of Kuwait, and collected the first gold medal for the Islamic Republic at the continental sports event.

On Tuesday, the Iranian squad, consisting of Mahdieh Aminzadeh, Maryam Pourshafiei, Najmeh Khedmati, Fatemeh Karamzah and Armita Sadeqian, collected 1,233 total points in the women’s 10m air rifle youth team competitions at the Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex in Kuwait City to finish on the gold podium.

Indian female athletes claimed the silver, while the South Korean team landed in the third place.

Later in the day, the Iranian outfit, comprising Narjes Emamgholinejad Andvari, Elaheh Ahmadi and Mahlagha Jambozorg, recoded a praiseworthy performance in the final match of the 10m air rifle women team contests, and scored 1,243 total points to claim the silver medal.

Chinese athletes were awarded the gold medal. The bronze medal in this category went to South Korean sports shooters.

Additionally, Emamgholinejad Andvari won a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle individual competitions with a total score of 185 points.

Chinese sportswoman Yi Siling earned 208 points in total and grabbed the gold, while China’s Du Li scored 207 total points and finished second.

The 13th edition of Asian Shooting Championships started in Kuwait City, Kuwait, on November 1, and will finish on November 12.

On October 29, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) revoked the Rio 2016 Olympics qualifying status of the championship.

The IOC said its technical delegate, Yair Davidovich of Israel, was scheduled to supervise the event on behalf of the International Sports Shooting Federation (ISSF), but was denied a visa by the Kuwaiti immigration department.
