Sir Alex Ferguson has handed Dimitar Berbatov a Manchester United lifeline by asking the striker to join the club's tour of South Africa and the Far East.

United triggered the option for a new one-year deal to protect the striker's transfer value, as Berbatov has been linked with a host of clubs, including Galatasaray, Paris St Germain and Fenerbahce.

Berbatov, 31, made just five Premier League starts last term and Ferguson admitted he would sell the Bulgarian for the right price this summer.

"Nothing has happened with Dimitar. He'll join the tour to South Africa and China," The Daily Star quoted Ferguson, as syaing.

"It wasn't a great season for him, partly because I settled with Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Chicharito. I don't think I treated him unfairly but he can feel disappointed he didn't get more football. He's a great talent." (ANI)
