Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata along with the club's other superstar signings are now taking history lessons on the Premier League side's glorious past to fully appreciate the importance of playing for the club.

Mata, who became United's first record signing of the year when he moved from Chelsea in January for 37.1 million pounds, is leading the way. Former United fullback Patrice Evra had been an advocate of learning as much as possible about the history of a club, which rivals Real Madrid for being the biggest and most famous in the world.

United has a long and rich history going back to the days of legendary Wales international Billy Meredith, who played for the club from 1906 to 1921, scoring 35 goals in 303 games, The Daily Star reported.

Evra, who moved to Juventus in the summer, claimed the history lessons increased his pride in wearing the United shirt and that is a theme Mata is reportedly in tune with and he will be conveying that message to fellow Spanish speakers Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao, the club's latest major signings.

Argentina's Di Maria has taken over from Mata as United's record signing at 59.7 million pounds after moving from Real and Colombian striker Falcao arrived on a high- profile loan from Monaco last week in a headline-grabbing beat-the-deadline deal.

Spain playmaker Mata said that finding out about the history of the club is very important, and added that it is important to understand how big the club is and to learn about the history and its many trophies.

He said that he was really keen to see all the trophies United has won, which is why he went to the club museum, adding that he wanted to know more about their club.

Mata also said that going away on tour is also a great way to see how big the club is all over the world, adding that one can sense it back home in England of course but even on the pre-season tour of the US they had fans waiting for them everywhere. (ANI)
