Barcelona star Lionel Messi could reportedly have been playing for Chelsea this season after Adidas offered to pay half of his 210 million-pound euro buy-out clause.

According to, Adidas was willing to pay 105 million pounds to help Chelsea land Messi and snap up one of rival Nike's prize assets if they had Messi playing in their kit for either Chelsea, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.

However, the report mentioned that Messi said he had no plans of going anywhere after he and his representatives were made aware of the offer.

The report further said that even if Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich had managed to cough up the remaining 105 million pounds of the fee, given Messi's prickly history with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, there would have been plenty of work to do to make the world-record deal happen. (ANI)
