Oman to face Bahrain in WAFF Championship opener

Oman will play in Group B alongside Iraq and Bahrain in the 8th West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Championship to be held in Qatar.

The tournament which begins on December 25 in Doha will have participation from 10 countries. The tournament will conclude on January 7.

Qatar national team will play in Group A facing Saudi Arabia and Palestine while Jordan is going to play in Group C with Kuwait, Lebanon and Yemen.

Oman are scheduled to start their campaign against Bahrain on December 25. They will play Iraq on December 31.

The semifinals are scheduled for January 4 and the third-place play-off as well as final will be played on January 7.

Commenting on the occasion, Saoud Al Mohannadi, CEO of the Championship said: "We are very happy to announce the hosting of WAFF's 8th Championship for Men, and it is without a doubt that this championship is one of the most important events the Qatar Football Association (QFA) will host this season."

Meanwhile, in the His Majesty Cup match, Al Kamel will take on Oman Club in Sur Sports Complex on Thursday while Nizwa will take Smail in Nizwa and Bausher will take on Jalan at the ROP Stadium.

On Friday, Suwaiq will take on Salalah in Sohar Sports Complex while Muscat will face Al Khabourah at the ROP Stadium and Al Rustaq will play Al Seeb at the Ibri Sports Complex.

Al Bashair will play Al Mudaibi and  Al Wahda will take on Yankul at Sur Sports Complex and Al Ethihad will take on Al Aroubah at the Salalah Sports Complex.

On November 23, Al Nahda will meet Bahla and Sohar will meet Al Taliya in Sohar Sports Complex. On the same day, Al Hamra will meet Al Musannah in Nizwa Sports Complex. On November 24, Al Nasr will take on Mirbat in Salalah.
