Rio Olympics: Morocco’s Rabii wins boxing bronze

Morocco’s 23-year-old Mohammed Rabii won the bronze medal in welterweight boxing after losing the semifinal to Uzbekistan’s Shakhram Giyasov. The fight happened this Monday (15) at Pavilion 06 of Riocentro, one of the Rio Olympics venues. Rabii won the fight by unanimous decision from the judges.

Giyasov will compete for gold on Wednesday (17) against the winner of the match between Souleymane Diop Cissokho of France and Daniyar Yeleussinov of Kazakhstan, also scheduled for this Monday. In boxing, there is no competition for third place, and the losers in both semifinals win bronze medals.
