Egypt’s football star Mohammad Salah arrived on Wednesday night in Cairo from Spain where he had received medical treatment for an injury he sustained last month, airport sources said.
The Liverpool marksman flew into Cairo along with his family aboard an EgyptAir flight from Madrid, they added.
His arrival coincided with Egypt’s friendly against Belgium that ended in a 3-0 loss for the Pharaohs. The game was Egypt’s last warm-up before next week’s World Cup in Russia.
On May 26, the 25-year-old striker was injured in the shoulder in the Uefa Champions League final in Kiev between Liverpool and Real Madrid. The injury forced Salah to leave in the 30th minute of the match that ended in a 3-1 victory for Real Madrid.
Salah is expected to join the Pharaohs’ training in Cairo on Saturday. The Egyptian squad will leave on Sunday for Russia.
The Pharaohs will start their World Cup campaign on June 15, playing Uruguay. It is not certain yet if Salah will appear in the Uruguay encounter.
Egypt will also play hosts Russia on June 19 and Saudi Arabia six days later in the tournament’s Group A.
Salah played a key role in sending Egypt to the World Cup for the first time in 28 years.
He had a sensational season in Liverpool, scoring a tally of 32 goals in 38 English Premier matches and winning the Player of the Year prize. Salah has netted a total of 44 goals in all competitions this season, a feat that has made him a global football star.
