Three football clubs in UAE merged into one

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has decreed the merger of Al Shabab, Al Ahli and Dubai Club into one sports entity called Shabab Al Ahli Dubai Club, it was announced on Tuesday.

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, has been appointed as chairman of the club. Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, has been named as first vice chairman.

Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the UAE’s National Olympic Committee, has been named as the second vice chairman.

A supreme committee was formed to oversee the merger under the chairmanship of Khalifa Saeed Sulaiman.

Shaikh Mohammad said a team would be built to compete for continental and global honours.

Shaikh Mohammad said the merger aims to enhance the sports landscape and support the Emirati football with new opportunities and major teams that can make big achievements that would live up to the UAE’s reputation and status in all forums and among top tournaments. “We seek to build a strong football team that can compete continentally and globally,” Shaikh Mohammad said.

Under the new resolution, which takes effect immediately as of the date of issue, all material, moral and ethical rights as well as investments, and the annual financial allocations from Dubai Government for three clubs, will be transferred to the Shabab Al Ahli Dubai Club.

The venue of the Dubai Cultural Sports Club will be the main headquarters of the new club after developing its facilities, playgrounds and amenities to be used for trainings and competitions.
