Tokyo promise safe Olympics in 2020

The Japanese authorities promised on Wednesday to organize safe Olympic games in 2020, after the terrorist attacks in Paris last week.

The central Government and the Governor of Tokyo Yoichi Masuzoe, stated that they would adopt new measures to tighten security of that and other sports events in the Japanese capital.

Tokyo has the honor of having the best public order in the world, and we are going to make our best effort to maintain it, Masouze asserted in reference to the preparations of the Olympics in 2020 and the 2019 World Rugby Cup.

To tighten the measures against terrorism, the Governor said he would try to increase the number of police agents and firemen in the metropolitan area in Tokyo.

Meanwhile, the central Government announced on Tuesday a basic plan to prepare Japan for the Olympics in 2020, including the creation of a new security and intelligence agency in July, 2017.

The minister in charge of the Olympics and the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Toshiaki Endo, reported after a cabinet meeting that faced with the horror of the attacks in Paris, we want to organize successful and safe Olympics, with a lasting legacy.

Olympic Committee in Japan also announced that it would adopt measures to guarantee security for the Japanese athletes and coaches abroad, and requested that they registered in the emergency notifying system of the Foreign Ministry.
