It was an unforgettable night at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium as Real Madrid put on a dominant performance against Manchester City in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match.

The star of the show was Federico Valverde, who scored a stunning hat-trick to lead the Spanish team to a strong victory, giving them a solid edge heading into the second leg in England.

A Career Night for Valverde

Valverde had one of the best performances of his career. He scored three goals and played a crucial role in the match's outcome.

His precise finishing and relentless energy overwhelmed Manchester City’s defense, helping Real Madrid take a significant step toward the Champions League quarter-finals.

You Dream of Nights Like This

After the final whistle, Valverde expressed his feelings about a performance he called one of the most special moments of his career.

“Incredible. You dream of nights like this,” the midfielder said.

“I want to thank my teammates for their trust, the coaching staff, and our fans who keep supporting us even in a tough season.”

Valverde also mentioned that the match was among the most enjoyable he has experienced in recent years.

“It was one of the best games of my career. I really enjoyed myself today. It’s been a long time since I had fun in a match like this.”

Tactical Preparation Paid Off

Even though Manchester City started strong and created early threats, Real Madrid gradually took control of the game.

Valverde pointed out the tactical preparation from head coach Álvaro Arbeloa. He explained that the team practiced specific situations during training to handle City’s aggressive pressing style.

“We worked a lot on goal-kick situations because they press man-to-man. That leaves spaces, and we have the speed to exploit them, so it worked well,” Valverde said.

He added that his runs into the box were part of the tactical plan from the coaching staff.

“The coach asks me to arrive in the box from the second line and attack the space. Today we had more players controlling possession, so I tried to attack whenever I could.”
