FIFA president Gianni Infantino has reminded the United States of its commitments to a bid to host the World Cup 2026 following a revised executive order on immigration by US President Donald Trump.

"When it comes to FIFA competitions, any team - including the supporters and officials of that team - who qualify for a World Cup need to have access to the country, otherwise there is no World Cup. That is obvious," Infantino was reported as saying in London on Thursday.

The United States is considered the favourite to host the 2026 tournament, which will be expanded from 32 to 48 teams.

However, US Soccer Federation (USSF) president Sunil Gulati recently left open the question of whether or not the US would make a bid.

Trump on Monday signed a new executive order banning immigration from six Muslim-majority countries.
