Manchester City player Pablo Zabaleta has claimed that his Argentine 'pal' Lionel Messi has joined the growing worldwide fan club of the Premier League side.

The Barcelona superstar may have been impressed by the 6-0 destruction of Tottenham on Sunday, which featured another -scintillating display by Sergio Aguero, another Argentina star, who struck twice to take his tally for the season to 15.

According to the Mirror, Zabaleta said that Messi has followed City's recent rise and claimed that the FIFA Ballon d'Or winner always tells him that he joined City at the perfect moment in 2008 because Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan bought the club days later, paving the way for the arrival of top quality talent such as Aguero.

Zabaleta further said that he and Messi were very close friends when they were at Barcelona together, adding that they had both known each other for a number of years while he was starting out at Espanyol and Messi at Barcelona.

According to Zabaleta, Messi always asks him about City whenever they meet for national duty. (ANI)
