Subway Saudi Arabia organizes coast to coast beach clean-up activity
Subway restaurants in Saudi Arabia organized a series of beach clean-up activities in Jeddah, Dammam, and Khobar as part of a campaign that highlighted its commitment to supporting the community and reiterated its status as a responsible global corporation.
The campaign kicked-off at the Corniche beach in Jeddah. It then moved into Dammam and concluded in Khobar the following day. Led by senior management members, a dedicated team of 150 Subway staff and volunteers participated in the campaign that also hosted a sumptuous lunch at the end of each day’s activity.
Mohsen Mousa, Managing Director and Founder of Shamel Food (Master Franchisee of Subway Saudi Arabia), said: “We are thrilled to have successfully implemented this corporate responsibility initiative with the wholehearted response from our staff. Truly overwhelming was the number of volunteers who approached us and expressed interest in contributing to the clean-up activity; the pride for their country was sincere and extremely touching.
“Our initiative also complements our mission to lend a helping hand to create a healthier environment for our loyal customers. Apart from serving as a team-building exercise, it offered an opportunity for staff members from various outlets to meet and interact with each other.”
Currently, Subway has 45 outlets in Saudi Arabia. The brand has successfully established itself in the Arab world as the largest submarine sandwich franchise with over 245 outlets.
Subway Saudi has also earned a reputation for its vital role in raising awareness about the importance of healthy eating habits. Recognising this priority, the restaurant chain was awarded the ‘Ambassador of Healthy Food’ certificate for 2009 by the Saudi Ministry of Health. The same year, Subway Saudi received a certificate of appreciation from the World Health Organisation (WHO) for its efforts in promoting a healthy food culture in the country.
With more than 34,300 locations in 96 countries including the Middle East, the Subway restaurant chain is the world’s largest submarine sandwich franchise. Headquartered in Milford, Connecticut, the Subway chain was co-founded by Fred DeLuca and Dr. Peter Buck in 1965. The partnership, which continues today, marked the beginning of a remarkable journey — one that made it possible for thousands of individuals to build and succeed in their own business.
