An international Saudi specialist estimates Saudi Arabia’s gold production at 4.5 tons per annum, reported Al-Watan . Yet, the Kingdom’s gold consumption is estimated at 250 tons per annum. The Chief Director of the Saudi Al-Athim Trade and Industry Group, Ahmed Saleh Al-Athim, stated that gold sales in Saudi Arabia declined by 5.85 percent following the September 11 events. Al-Athim related the fall to a rise in local and global gold prices and a lack of nationalization laws for gold production. — (menareport.com)
