Algerian milling and grain exporting company Grands Moulins du Sud (GMS) and Emirati group Al-Ghurair were recently granted a governmental concession to set up silos at the Jijel Port, 350 kilometers east of the capital city Algiers.
The two cereal silos will have a 160,000 ton capacity, 140,000 of which will store wheat and the remaining 20,000 will store soybeans. GMS is expected to select a construction firm to start work on the project in the next few months.
Cereals trade and transport company Al-Ghurair holds a 45 percent stake in GMS. Algerian grain imports total six million tons per annum, a mere 15 percent of which are traded by privately held companies. — (menareport.com)
