New market share numbers from Mercury Research released recently show ATI gaining 17 percentage points of market share in discrete desktop graphics. This huge shift in customers has been attributed to the strength across all of ATI’s product lines, from entry level to performance graphics, and is built on two years of product leadership in DirectX 9 graphics processors.

The new numbers reveal ATI to be the largest graphics company by any measure, with over half of the desktop discrete market and nearly three quarters of the notebook discrete market, giving the company nearly three-fifths of the total discrete graphics market.

This is good news for ATI in the Middle East where there has been a 16 percent rise in desktop sales and a 68 per cent rise in notebook sales since Q3 2003, according to IDC.  Another key contributory factor to the company’s regional success is the Dh 370 million gaming market which continues to flourish aided by rising Internet penetration levels, increasing number of broadband users and the introduction of superior gaming concepts.

“A high disposable income coupled with an in-depth knowledge of the latest gadgets and advancements in technology make consumers in the Middle East a worthy challenge. As the only graphics solutions provider to have a direct presence in the region, we’ve been able to gauge the public’s wants and desires and win them over. Regional customers looking for unsurpassed graphics technology and the ultimate gaming experience now know that ATI makes all the difference,” said Peter Edinger, Vice President, EMEA, ATI.

At present, ATI’s flagship card for gamers, the RADEON 9800 XT, is recognized for its superior design and engineering.  By offering game enthusiasts stunning Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics at blazing speeds, this high end graphics card confirms ATI’s progressive approach to the high end consumer market.

Commenting on the future, Rick Bergman, Senior Vice President for ATI’s PC Business Unit, added, “Not only are we strong in all aspects of our PC discrete business, but we’re about to launch a powerful contender into the desktop integrated market. In addition, ATI is leading the graphics charge in cell phones, ahead of the curve in DTV and we’re looking forward to delivering technologies for future Xbox and Nintendo products.”

“The success is testament to the skills and dedication of the ATI employees, who have worked long and hard to put the company into this leadership position,” he concluded.
