Batelco considers installing ‘wi-fi’ in Bahrain International Airport

Published July 3rd, 2002 - 02:00 GMT

Batelco is considering enabling businesspeople traveling through Bahrain International Airport to access their e-mail and the Internet without having to plug in. The plan is based on Wireless LAN, or ‘wi-fi’ technology, and will provide special radio coverage of the entire airport to give laptop computers a connection to the Internet without a cable or phone-socket, in the same way that mobile phones pick up a radio signal.

Details behind Batelco’s ‘wi-fi’ plan for Bahrain International Airport have yet to be finalized, but potential exists to roll-out wi-fi to other busy locations across Bahrain, such as hotel lobbies and shopping malls.

The plan was revealed this week at the official opening of Batelco’s new Customer Sales and Service Center (CSC) at Bahrain Airport. The Center has been moved from ‘departures’ and into ‘arrivals’ at the airport. The airport CSC is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. — (menareport.com)
