MH Alshaya had opened over 170 stores in the Middle East region in 2001, confirmed the company’s Chief Executive, Mohammed Alshaya. “This was a very dramatic increase, adding up to a 30 percent growth in our number of outlets. We now have over 420 stores in the Middle East, and we are looking to expand even further in the coming year.”

The department store will carry a range of accessories that will be exclusive to the store, including hats, shoes, jewelry and handbags. Debenhams will also dedicate a large area to lingerie, including its own brands, and designer brands like Calvin Klein, Caprice and Janet Reger. The cosmetics department will offer the products and perfumes, including Chanel, Dior and Clinique.

The Sahara Center is the sixth Debenhams store to open in the Gulf. Debenhams also has stores in Dubai, Kuwait, Qatar, Riyadh and Bahrain where the first Middle East store opened in 1997. — (
