Over 150 hotels in Cairo have completed their preparations towards the upcoming tourism season in the city. According to Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, these hotels have made all the arrangements preparing them for the absorption of foreign and Arab tourists expected to fill their rooms, while striving to maintain full occupancy ratios.
The hotels undertaking these measures include 25 five-star hotels, 25 four-star hotels, 60 three-star hotels and 50 two and three-star hotels. In addition, there are dozens of accommodation facilities and resorts available for those choosing to stay in Hurgada, Sharm El-Sheikh and Alexandria.
According to statistics published by the local Ministry of Tourism, 93,583 tourists resided in Cairo hotels during September 1998. This figure is second only to August of that year, in which 108,457 tourists stayed at local hotels. In addition, the average hotel occupancy ratio of Cairo’s hotels was 64 in September 1998, reaching 68 in November and 70 in August of that same year.
Cairo’s hotel market has a stable occupancy increase rate, due largely to a healthy economic growth as well as large joint ventures established recently. However, prices have remained fixed over the past two years, as a result of an agreement between major hotels to freeze corporate rates. –(Albawaba-MEBG)
