ALBAWABA - At least 22 people were killed, and about 80 others were injured in a train accident caused by a crane collapse on a railway line in northern Thailand, local authorities announced Wednesday.
"Twenty-two people were killed and more than 30 injured," local police official Nakhon Ratchasima Thatchapon Chinawong told AFP earlier.
A video was posted on social media of the aftermath of the crash, showing rescue workers attempting to save people who were still stuck inside the train in Thailand.
The horrific incident happened on Wednesday in the Sikhio district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeast of Bangkok.
The train was leaving from Bangkok for Ubon Ratchathani province.
The crane was being used to build an elevated track as part of a joint Thai-Chinese high-speed rail project, before it fell on the moving train, causing deaths.
In addition, Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn revealed that 195 passengers were on board the train. He also ordered a full investigation into the accident.
