The growing use of e-commerce around the world has affected many travel and tourism companies, resulting in decreasing revenues and even bankruptcies. Today, tourists are able to independently execute their hotel, airline ticket and car rental bookings, without the need of an agency.
According to Al-Bayan newspaper, the 300 travel operators and tourism companies in Kuwait are already beginning to suffer from the effects of e-commerce. This rising new competitive factor is added to traditional competition, causing financial difficulties.
The Kuwaiti ministry of Communication has recently published statistics revealing that the number of Internet users in Kuwait currently stands at 75,000, with 70 percent of these between the ages of 18 and 35.
Updated statistics have shown that last year, the Europeans booked more than 27 million flights through the Internet. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
