Egypt’s National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS) and the Ukraine Space Agency recently signed an agreement to cooperate in the development of a satellite for scientific research purposes, reported Al-Ahram. A 25-NARSS team will travel to the Ukraine work on the project.

NARSS utilizes new technologies of remote sensing and space sciences and their applications in scientific research. Their research covers the areas of geology, mineral and energy resources, hydrogeology, agriculture, soils, photogrammetry, engineering, physics and data processing.

In terms of scientific development, the Arab region spent less than 0.5 percent of its gross domestic product on scientific expenditure since March 2001, compared to 1.26 percent in Cuba and 2.9 percent in Japan, stated a recently published United Nations report on Arab Human Development. — (menareport.com)
