Egypt and China have signed three bilateral agreements pertaining to economic, technological, cultural and agricultural cooperation, during the Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji’s visit in Egypt. Negotiations are also currently underway for the establishment of joint ventures in Egypt’s Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ), set up in the northern Gulf of Suez, east of Port Said and West of Damietta.
Trade exchanges between China and Egypt hit $893.5 million in the first 11 months of 2001, a 5.6 percent increase compared with the corresponding period in the previous year of 2000, according to the Chinese General Administration of Customs. Chinese exports to Egypt amounted to $824 million during the period January-November 2001, a 9.9 percent climb compared with the corresponding period in the previous year and Chinese imports from Egypt totaled $69.4 million during the period January-November 2001, a 27 percent drop during the same period. — (menareport.com)
