Eritrea and Qatar sign economic, diplomatic accords

The governments of Eritrea and Qatar have signed a series of accords here to boost economic and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries, according to a joint statement issued in Asmara on Tuesday. 

 

An accord on economic, commercial and technical cooperation was signed, and separate agreements on investment, fiscal issues and air transport, were signed, along with a protocol agreement between their respective chambers of commerce. 

 

"A protocol on cooperation and coordination between the foreign ministries," was also signed, the statement said. The accords were signed Monday, during a visit to Eritrea by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa II.  

 

During the visit, the Qatar leader met with his Eritrean counterpart Issaias Afeworki.
