ALBAWABA - The EU proposed on Tuesday to slap huge tariffs on Israel as a way to pressure Tel Aviv to stop the war in Gaza.
The European Commission suggested imposing tariffs on Israeli goods over the deadly war in Gaza and ongoing violations in the West Bank.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas told Euronews that the strategy is to suspend trade-related provisions between the EU and Israel.
Trade between the EU and Tel Aviv hit $50.4 billion last year, Euronews reported, and the preferential treatment is about 37 percent of that.
Nonetheless, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also said during State of the EU speech that the EU is planning to target Israeli trade with the aim of pressuring it to end the war.
