Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, along with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Information and Culture of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), laid Saturday the foundation stone of the Sheikh Khalifa City that will be set up on the former Israeli settlement of "Morag" in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah.
In his address during a celebration held in Rafah on the the occasion, President Abbas welcomed Sheikh Abdullah and his visiting delegation. President Abbas conveyed that the new city would hold 25,000 people whose houses were demolished by the Israeli occupation.
For his part, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan renewed UAE's support to the Palestinian people and their rebuilding and development efforts, WAFA reported. He said the work of construction and development that lies ahead of the Palestinian people will require great effort and determination.
