Iran will retain its 50 percent quota of sturgeon exports originating from the Caspain Sea this year. The Republic will have access 75 tons of the total 145 tons of caviar retrieved from the Sea in 2002, reported Iran’s Sturgeon Research Center.

An estimated 95 percent of the world's caviar comes from the Caspian. Control over the commodity used to be shared by the Soviet Union and Iran, but the end of the Cold War saw Soviet control parceled up between Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. There are seven species of sturgeon living in the Caspian Sea. — (menareport.com)
