Iraq: Internet fees to go down

Al-Bayan newspaper has recently quoted Iraqi Communications Minister Muhammad ‘Ali al-Hakim who announced that Internet surfing payments will be linked to the price of telephone calls in the near future. Surfing the Internet will not cost extra, as opposed to the existing situation in which the Communications Ministry levies a charge for Internet surfing which averages ID800 per hour in addition to the telephone service fees. The paper noted that about 4.5% of the local population have telephone service.
