An Iraqi delegation has informed the Khartsyzsk Pipe Mill in the Ukraine of its government’s readiness to buy the entire output of factory, reported the Interfax news agency, quoting a statement made at the Central Committee of the Ukrainian Metallurgy and Mining Workers Trade Union, in Dnipropetrovsk.
The news followed a visit to Iraq of Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov, who told journalists that Iraq is interested in receiving supplies of food, steel reinforcements and metal for the construction industry, as part of the UN oil for food program.
Yekhanurov also visited Iraq in October last year, and since then three Ukrainian companies opened up representative offices in the country. According to the Ukrainian State Statistics Committee, Ukrainian exports to Iraq in the first quarter of 2001 stood at $71.9 million, 456 times higher than in the same period in 2000. ― (MENA Report)
