Jordan exports some $300 million worth of apparel and textiles to major US retail buyers. This constitutes a 125 percent increase over the year 1999. The American retailer list includes Target, Wal-Mart, JC Penney and Kohl's, as well as Victoria's Secret, Kenneth Cole, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Liz Claiborne, according to Jordan Investment Board (JIB).
Jordan was the fourth country to sign a free-trade agreement (FTA) with the United States after Israel, Mexico, and Canada. The JIB will be featuring a seminar aimed at exploring the investment opportunities in Jordan during the ASAP Global Sourcing Show, to be held August 27, 2002, at the Las Vegas Hilton.
"The presentation will be an informative exchange of the knowledge needed to stay abreast of the many challenges and opportunities available in today's global sourcing environment. The importance of a balanced sourcing strategy can never be undermined and certainly with NAFTA, the Caribbean initiatives (CBTPA) and the impact of GATT and WTO in 2005, the timing is right to explore the unique advantages offered by the US and Jordan free-trade agreement," John R. Calvert, seminar consultant and president of the Network Apparel Group, stated.
Since its creation by the government of Jordan in 1995, the JIB has been dedicated to encouraging and facilitating investment in Jordan, with a focus towards the apparel and textile sectors.
