Libya has suspended gas exports to Italy following a series of clashes near the Mellitah complex, 110 kilometers northwest of the capital Tripoli, Reuters is reporting, citing the National Oil Corporation (NOC).
Exports were stopped on Saturday, and now are, "completely halted" according to Mustafa Sunalla, an NOC deputy chairman said on Sunday, according to Reuters.
Operations were suspended after security forces clashed with local tribesman, the Associated Press reported, citing security officials speaking on the condition of anonymity.
The complex provides natural gas and it is one of the largest in the country.
Following the hostage crisis at the Ain Amenas facility in Algeria, Libyan officials said they had increased security at energy facilities across the country.
