ALBAWABA - Meta Platforms, Inc., formerly known as Facebook, the American multinational technology company, announced the construction of the world’s longest submarine cable to spread artificial intelligence (AI) services on a global scale.

The famous tech company officially announced the launch of its new project, Waterworth. The project aims to build a global submarine cable spanning 50,000 kilometers, making it the world’s longest.
Notably, Meta plans to invest over $10 billion in the project’s infrastructure, aiming to control its operations and services efficiently and rapidly through the submarine cables. Additionally, the company is focusing on enhancing global digital infrastructure and supporting artificial intelligence data centers and cloud services.

According to Meta, the new submarine cable project will connect five continents. Delivery points will be established in the United States, Brazil, India, South Africa, and other countries.
Experts explained that the new Waterworth project will feature 24 pairs of optical fibers, installed using the latest techniques and technologies. The cables can efficiently operate in deep waters up to 7,000 meters.
It is worth mentioning that India is collaborating with the US on this major project, as India has announced its financial contribution to the building, maintenance, and repair of submarine cables in the Indian Ocean.
