Nabors confirming shooting at Yemen rig, two workers dead

Canada’s Nabors Industries Ltd. issued a statement sadly confirming the shooting that occurred Tuesday, March 18, at a company rig operating in Yemen. Killed in the incident were a Canadian citizen employed as rig manager and a Yemeni citizen employed by Nabors as a mechanic's helper.  

 

The perpetrator was a Yemeni citizen employed by Nabors for approximately nine years and who took his own life in the incident. Also killed was a rig executive employed by the US-based Hunt Oil company. Another Canadian citizen employed by Nabors as a mechanic was severely injured in the shooting. 

 

“We join with Hunt Oil company in expressing our deepest regret at this tragic incident and in expressing our heartfelt sympathies to all of the victims and their families at this difficult time," Eugene Isenberg, Nabors chairman and chief executive officer stated.  

 

Nabors is largest land drilling contractor in the world and one of the largest well-servicing and workover contractors in the United States.
