New drive to upgrade Iraqi ports

According to <i>Alkhaleej</i>, Iraqi ministry of transportation has announced the start of the implementation of a new drive to reconstruct local seaports and providing them with modern equipment so it can host giant ships.


A high level official at the ministry said that such campaign is crucial to prosper the trade between Iraq and the rest of the world. He explained that Umm Qaser port has recently absorbed the largest ship in the world, which carried buses and food supplies.

The office clarified that Umm Qaser witnessed such activity for more than 15 years. He expressed his confidence that reconstructing the seaports will give valuable assistance for the Iraqi economy.
