ALBAWABA - The German engineering firm Siemens is investing $60 million in a new U.S. facility to construct bullet trains for Brightline West’s high-speed rail systems that will transport people between Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
Employers in project management, supply chain management, industrial production and test engineers, quality control, electro-mechanical assemblers, and logistics will be housed on the almost 300,000 square foot complex, according to Forbes.
When the new facility opens in 2026, it is anticipated to employ around 300 workers. It will be utilized for the assembly of American Pioneer 220 electric trains, which are based on a Siemens model that is being manufactured in Europe and can reach a top speed of 220 miles per hour, with deliveries possibly beginning in 2027.
With an anticipated top speed of 186 miles per hour, the 218-mile (350-kilometer) trip would take two hours and ten minutes in its entirety. The Las Vegas to Los Angeles line hopes to be finished before the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, commented to Trains.com in a statement “After months of relentless advocacy, I am proud to announce this massive 300 job first of its kind manufacturing facility for America is coming to Upstate NY,” adding that “Upstate New York is unmatched in rail car manufacturing capabilities, with a deep proud history pioneering the rail industry and a community that is excited to get to work building America’s future.
CEO of Siemens Mobility, Michael Peters, said as Reuters reports that “This new facility in Horseheads, New York, marks the beginning of a brand-new industry in the USA – bringing both high-speed rail production and some of the world’s most modern trains to the continent for the first time.”
