Abu Dhabi University organizes “Read with ADU” campaign in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Education Council

As part of its ongoing 10th anniversary celebrations, Abu Dhabi University organized a month long campaign titled “Read with ADU” in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Education Council and coinciding with the “Abu Dhabi Reads” initiative. Aimed at encouraging younger generations not to neglect books in spite of the ongoing technological developments that might distract them from reading. The “Read with ADU” campaign comprises of a variety of events and activities that concludes on 11th of May. Some of these consist of an online short story competition on ADU’s social media pages for middle and high school students titled “UAE writes, as well a book donation campaign that collected a variety of more than 2000 books from students, faculty and staff on the University’s Abu Dhabi campus, which will be distributed to a number of schools and special needs centers in Abu Dhabi.
Commenting on the importance of the campaign, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim, Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University asserted that it reflects the University’s keenness in the dissemination of knowledge to the community, which serves its strategic mission in education, scientific research, and community service. “Our unique campaign also coincides with Abu Dhabi Education Council’s “Abu Dhabi Reads” initiative and many of ADU’s students are participating in several of its activities to enhance awareness and promote reading for pleasure or as an extracurricular activity without restricting it to an academic context,” added Dr. Ibrahim.
He pointed out that the campaign builds on the fruitful partnership between Abu Dhabi University and Abu Dhabi Education Council. “ADEC is always keen on providing support for higher education institutions in Abu Dhabi, as well as launching unique initiatives such as “Abu Dhabi Reads” that aim at the advancement of upgrading the educational process and enhancing its various aspects to meet international standards; hence Abu Dhabi University is always looking to contribute and participating in ADEC’s distinctive events and activities”, concluded Dr. Ibrahim.
On her part, Dina Mohamed Project Management Consultant at Abu Dhabi University said: “The significance of Abu Dhabi University’s collaboration with ADEC during several activities of the Abu Dhabi Reads initiative, stems from the ADU’s constant strive to enhance awareness of the importance of reading and encourage students to read for pleasure. Especially that in this day and age, with technology creeping into every aspect of our lives, books hold a very special significance and it is important to let students know that they can’t be replaced. The campaign at Abu Dhabi University included a book donation drive that collected more than 2000 books from staff, faculty and students. These books will be distributed to a few select schools as well as disability centers and hospitals throughout Abu Dhabi”.
The “Read with ADU” campaign is in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Education Council and is sponsored by Boarders, Al Muttanabi Bookshop, Pearson Education, Mc Graw Hill Education and Dolce Café.

The dream began with the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in the year 2000, After three years of planning, the university opened its doors in September 2003, to an entering class of 1,000 students on its two campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
