As part of its “WeCare” CSR initiative, Abu Dhabi University Knowledge Group (ADUKG), in partnership with Abu Dhabi Blood Bank (ADBB), has recently completed a very successful two-day blood donation campaign at the main Abu Dhabi University campus. Targeted at ADUKG and ADU staff and faculty, as well as ADU students, the campaign aimed to contribute to ADBB’s important work - saving patients’ lives and supporting its critical role in the UAE’s blood transfusion programme.

The 2-day campaign took place in a ADBB’s mobile Blood Bank stationed at the University’s Abu Dhabi campus, saw enthusiastic participation, with many individuals donating blood for the very first time. All donors were attended to by a crew of professional medical staff and technicians.

“We are very pleased with the turnout for this critical campaign, and are glad that our WeCare initiative has been able to support this important life-saving work. WeCare has a key focus on supporting the wider community and there is surely no clearer way to do so than by ensuring Abu Dhabi Blood Bank has a good supply of blood for future transfusions,” said Dr. Ahmad Badr, Chief Executive Officer of ADUKG.

The World Health Organisation estimates that around 112.5 million blood donations are collected globally every year. Regular voluntary donations are crucial to maintain supplies and efforts such as WeCare’s initiative help to demonstrate to donors how simple and painless it is to donate blood on a systematic basis.

Abu Dhabi Blood Bank operates under the direction of the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City and the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi. It allows donors to give blood in a convenient environment which is compliant with international standards. Its blood supply covers the needs of both governmental and private hospitals in Abu Dhabi, as well as supporting the other Emirates.

ADUKG’s WeCare initiative undertakes a range of projects and schemes specifically aimed at making a positive social and economic impact, using our particular knowledge and resources to help address specific regional issues. The initiative’s current areas of focus are Education, Society, Health, and the Environment. In October 2016, the campaign was awarded 1st Runner Up at the highly-respected Arabia CSR Awards 2016, recognising the initiative’s achievements in just its first year of entering.
