BurJuman unveils the cutting edge of Emirati fashion talent as ‘Mazyouna’ launches

Professional and emerging names on the Emirati fashion design scene launched their latest range of abayas, sheilas, jelabiyas, couture gowns and ready-to-wear collections at BurJuman yesterday (Thursday, April 18th) evening as the mall flagged off Mazyouna –its new initiative to provide a unique fashion platform for local Emirati designers.
The first show at 7:00pm featured Hessa Al Obaidli with her label HESSEH Abaya Haute Couture. Presenting “Wild Harmony”, her 2103 collection of power abayas, Hessa successfully drew on the motif of the wolf to create a clothing line for the modern Emirati woman that exudes the air of confidence without which she feels within in this day and age of empowerment.
Next up at 7:45pm was the launch of a new Lady Gaga-inspired collection of couture gowns and dresses by designer Fatmah Bin Fahad’s Al Mayyasa label. With yellow, tiffany blue, off-white and black as the dominant colours, Fatmah explored the unconventional style of her inspiration and mesmerized the audience with a capacity to create drama with her designs. Rounding up the opening day’s fashion buzz on the runway at 8:30pm was Rafia Helal Bin Drai with her Mauzan brand of abayas and jelabiyas. Showcasing her spring-summer collection for 2013, Rafia focused on a fusion of cultural influences to present her fresh interpretation of traditional Emirati wear, using the Indian Sari and Crepe De Chine to present a line full of femininity, sophistication and class.
Mazyouna will present the second of its three-day fashion show series this evening (Friday, April 19th), with Moza Al Suwaidi’s M-COLLECTION, Aysha Al Dhaheri’s Oushi Fashion and the design team of sisters-in-law Mariam AlMadfaei and Safa Alawar with their label 1001 Abayas. Select design pieces by all the designers in the series will be exhibited at the mall from April 21st to 27th.
