HMC to conduct course in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
About 200 physicians will attend the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Course to be held by Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Plastic Surgery Department in collaboration with the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) on 10 to 12 March. The course aims to provide the most up-to-date knowledge on various procedures and techniques used in plastic surgery with the aim of advancing clinical practice in the region.
“The event will provide an excellent forum for the exchange of ideas as well as an opportunity for participants to network with our colleagues from around the globe. We have invited plastic surgery experts from Qatar, other countries in the region, America and Europe to speak at the course, and are confident that this will be a fruitful and rewarding event that will be of immense benefit to our daily practice,” said Course Chairman Dr. Habib Al Basti, Senior Consultant at HMC’s Plastic Surgery Department, and a founding member of the GCC Association of Plastic Surgeons.
There is a major demand for plastic surgery in Qatar, with more than 3,000 patients on the waiting list for various procedures. Popular procedures include liposuction and lipoabdominoplasty to remove the excess fat and loose skin of the abdomen.
With a large portion of the population being obese, which increases the risk for diabetes and heart disease, an increasing number of people are turning to bariatric surgery, and post-bariatric body contouring surgery to improve the body’s shape and tone after massive weight loss.
Other plastic surgery patients include those who have previously had cancer surgery to remove breast tumors, those who want to correct congenital deformities, and those who simply desire to improve their looks through rhinoplasty (plastic surgery on the nose) or rhytidectomy (facelift).
Some of the speakers at the course will be Dr. Habib Al Basti, Dr. Hamdy El Khatib, Dr. Atalla Hammouda, Dr. Mahmoud Al Thalathini and Dr. Talal Al Hetmi from Qatar; Dr. Ashkan Ghavami, Dr. Aly Al Aly and Dr. Ozan Sozer from the USA; Dr. Carlos del Pino Roxo, Dr. Ruth Graf and Dr. Jaime Anger from Brazil; Dr. Wayne Perron from Canada; Dr. Amin Kalaaji from Norway; Dr. Nazim Cerkes from Turkey; Dr. Tariq Saeed from Bahrain; and Dr. Fuad Hashem from Saudi Arabia.
