Musicians from Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra have held a musical evening for Afghan children and families who are currently being housed in Doha, as part of a volunteer initiative launched by Qatar Foundation to support Afghan refugees.

The musical performance by the Qatar Foundation (QF) member included a number of classical music tracks, and the orchestra are set to present a second musical evening on Sunday, October 3. This will be for children and include Peter and the Wolf and musical excerpts from well-known films, with the aim of supporting the mental health of the refugee families and children.

Kurt Meister, Executive Director of Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, said: “It is an honor for Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra to come forward and support this tremendous work spearheaded by Qatar Foundation and the government of Qatar, especially in these anxiety-ridden times of social and emotional isolation during the coronavirus pandemic, because sharing music is one way in which we can still feel connected to each other”.

Over recent weeks, QF students, along with other volunteers from the QF community and its centers, have provided support to these families who are hosted in residential compounds in Doha, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The activities offered by QF range from sports programs, arts and crafts workshops, and of other activities intended to meet the diverse needs of refugees, particularly education and mental health.
