University of Dubai supports 6th Government Technology Summit Middle East

The University of Dubai (UD) recently participated in the 6th Government Technology Summit Middle East during which IT decision makers from the government, universities, public services and utilities sectors from across the Middle East met to discuss the latest challenges and opportunities in creating a smart government. The event recently took place at the JW Marriot Marquis Hotel, Dubai.
Addressing participants at the summit on the topic of future trends in ICT in creating smart cities, Dr. Eesa Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai, said: “ICT is the main contributor to the success of smart cities of the future. To ensure that we keep pace with the vast technological changes and advances happening every day, we must create a skillful workforce through education, and fully support these developments. It is important for us to develop future leaders of the ICT sector, as they constitute the main driving force towards economic development, forming the basis of a knowledge-based smart society.”
This is the sixth year that the Government Technology Summit Middle East was organized, and this invitation-only event brings together IT experts from various sectors, including government, education, utilities and public services. Keynote speakers at the 2014 event included Dr. Ali Alkhouri, Director General, Emirates Identity Authority, Mohmoud AlBastaki, CEO, Dubai Trade, and Dr. Jarallah Al-Ghamdi, CIO, Ministry of Education Saudi Arabia.
