Sharjah International Airport will commence work on a brand new terminal building later this year. The multi-million-dollar project, to be funded internally, has a target date of completion set for 2003.

According to the General Director of the Civil Aviation Authority Mohammed Saif Al Hajri, over the past two years, the airport has seen a steady rise in passenger volumes, causing a degree of congestion in the Arrivals terminal. “The new terminal will double our existing capacity, offering vastly more spacious premises for our Duty Free operations, Immigration procedures and security personnel," he said.

The project envisages the construction of a new facility for arriving passengers and will come up alongside the existing arrivals hall, being connected to the complex by a bridge. It will also have three separate conveyors for luggage handling, apart from moving walkways and allied facilities. — (menareport.com)
