SpaceX shuts down 2,500 Satrlink kits linked to Myanmar's scam center

ALBAWABA - On Monday, the Myanmar military successfully shut down a scam center operation near the border with Thailand, arresting over 2,000 individuals and seizing a massive number of Elon Musk and SpaceX's Starlink kits. 

SpaceX's Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Starlink Business Operations, took to X (formerly Twitter) and revealed that the company managed to shut down a massive number of Starlink kits.

Dreyer said, "SpaceX complies with local laws in all 150+ markets where Starlink operates. We work constantly to identify violations of our Acceptable Use Policy and applicable law. The same tech that brings immense benefits can also be misused."

She added, "In Myanmar, for example, SpaceX proactively identified and disabled over 2,500 Starlink kits in the vicinity of suspected scam centers. We’re committed to keeping Starlink a force for good by connecting the unconnected and stopping bad actors."

Myanmar is known for its scam centers that target people globally by using a wide variety of internet fraud methods, including Investment scams, job recruitment scams, phishing, and identity theft. 

KK Park, the building used by several criminal organizations for scam operations such as money laundering, romance, and investment scams, as reported by Myanmar Alin Daily.

According to AP, many individuals working inside Myanmar's scam centers were forced into the operation. Reports reveal that people across Asia are brought in with false identities and legitimate-looking job titles to work inside overcrowded facilities and are subjected to inhumane working conditions.
