Tunisia’s textile exports up 24 percent

Official statistics show that the value of exported Tunisian textiles reached four million Tunisian dinars ($2,700 million) in 2001, up from TD 3.5 million ($2,300 million) in 2000, a 24 percent rise, reported Al-Sharq Al-Awsat .  

 

The Tunisian textile sector consists of nearly 2,000 factories, of which 1,450 factories export all of their production to foreign markets. Tunisia is the fourth largest textile exporter country to Europe, with 95 percent of its yard goods reaching the continent.  

 

The textile sector in Tunisia is a major foreign currency source, contributing to investment and exports. The sector also provides the local population with 250,000 jobs. — (menareport.com)
