Al Hamriyah Port Customs Centre has achieved record growth in operations during the first three quarters of 2005, with the number of BoE (Bill of Entries) issued for import and export reaching a staggering 313 per cent. The total number of BoE issued during the first nine months of the year amounted to 91,899, compared to 22,265 in the same period last year.
The total value of goods exported and imported through the Center during the nine months was pegged at more than AED 2.7 billion, with the value of imported goods alone increasing by 12.8 per cent to reach AED 272 million. While vegetables, dates, livestock, cement, metal sheets and marbles were among the most imported goods, cars, tires, electronic products, vehicle and construction equipment made up the primary export goods.
The total weight of export goods in the first nine months of 2005 was over 467,000 tonnes, whereas the combined weight of import and export goods added up to more than 740,000 tonnes.
Mohammad Bakhit Al Falasi, Director of Al Hamriyah Customs, said, “Al Hamriyah Customs Center achieved remarkable growth in operations during the first nine months of this year, in line with the impressive overall increase in trade in the region. While Al Hamriyah Port is relatively smaller in size when compared to the Jebel Ali and Rashid ports, it holds a unique advantage as it caters to both large metal ships and the traditional wooden boats. Besides, the recent development of the port has also helped increase trade and commercial activities at the port.”
Al Hamriyah Customs Center carries out import, export, re-export, transshipment, transit, temporary admission and Duty Free Stores Area (DFSA) operations. The total number of DFSA operations performed until September 2005 reached 1,994, compared to 1,840 operations in the same period in 2004. The month of August recorded the highest number of export operations, while September was the month in which maximum number of import operations were carried out.
The Al Hamriya Port’s Duty Free Stores Area features a number of large stores with extensive capacity to store goods which come to the port for the purpose of re-export without entering Dubai. Vessels from all ports in the UAE, as well as from the Gulf region, Iran, India, Pakistan, Somalia, Iraq and Djibouti, call at the Al Hamriya Port.
