Two consortia of US universities, based in Mississippi and Oklahoma, have received funding from the Higher Education and Development (HEAD) program of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to pursue academic ties with Iraqi institutions of higher learning.
The University of Mosul, the University of Al-Anbar, the University of Basra, and Salahaddin University will receive academic, technical and research support from their American partners. The program also calls for student and faculty exchanges to promote joint research and academic interaction.
The two latest grants, announced December 2, 2003, bring the total number of grants under the HEAD program to five, with a total funding level of $21.7 million. — (menareport.com)
