ALBAWABA - Users may now publish consensually created NSFW material as long as it is clearly labeled as such on X (formerly Twitter) as it modifies its guidelines to explicitly enable users to post adult and violent content on the network, as reported by TechCrunch, with AI-generated photos and movies also being covered by the new regulations.
While X has always had a spur of accounts posting pornographic material, the platform has never taken an official stance in its policies that explicitly states whether such content is allowed or not, until the platform gave the option for community admins to set an “Adult Content” label for their communities, now taking this a step further.
The official @Safety account confirmed the change saying “we believe that users should be able to create, distribute, and consume material related to sexual themes as long as it is consensually produced and distributed. Sexual expression, visual or written, can be a legitimate form of artistic expression.”
Adding that the platform believes in the “autonomy of adults to engage with and create content that reflects their own beliefs, desires, and experiences, including those related to sexuality. We balance this freedom by restricting exposure to Adult Content for children or adult users who choose not to see it.”
Nevertheless, as stated by X, graphic material shouldn't be "excessively gory or depicting sexual violence." The platform maintains its policy of banning anything that overtly calls for, encourages, or celebrates violence, citing the goal of encouraging users to engage in dialogue about current events as reason for allowing such content.
