One man's search for love took a sinister turn in Dubai last December, when an attempt to cast a spell over a newly converted Muslim woman, who had stolen his heart, turned into a frenzied attack.
According to Emirate website, The National, the 41-year-old Frenchman broke into the woman's apartment on December 3 last year. After entering the property, the man sprinkled a 'love potion' of water and dirt, designed to infatuate his love interest.
His unsuspecting victim had a violent awakening when she got out of her bed to be met by the love-crazed trespasser, who pushed her back into the bedroom, locking the door.
The British lady had recently converted to Islam and had a sign saying, 'In the name of Allah', hanging over her door. After being violently pushed into a chair, the attacker reportedly asked his victim why she had the sign and a copy of the Quran.
After uncovering her Muslim faith, he spat on the holy book and attacked her before pouring his 'love potion' over her face.
A prisoner in her own home, the woman was reportedly locked in her room for four hours. Her capture waxed lyrical about love and threatened her with violence and even death if she would not marry him.
Fortunately for the woman in question, her aggressor left suddenly. The next day, a Saudi business associate persuaded her to report the incident to the police. The attacker was arrested as he celebrated his birthday party at the Yacht Club in Dubai.
Now the 41-year-old has been charged on multiple counts, including trespassing and assault. He is set to be deported after serving his sentence.
